Effective January 20, 2009 inmate visitation schedule will be conducted by the first initial of the inmates last name:
A through F Tuesdays 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon
G through N Saturday 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon
O through Z Sunday 12:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M.
Inmates are not permitted to posses money while incarcerated. For each inmate with money at the time of booking, or who receives money while incarcerated, an inmate account will be established. Inmates may use their account to order items from our commissary menu.
How to send money to an inmate. We accept cash money 24 hours a day. Monday thru Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm all money can be drop off at the clerks window inside the courthouse. After hours and during weekend visitation it can be dropped off at the jail window. WE DO NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL CHECKS. All funds sent by mail must be a certified check or money order and sent via the US Postal Service. Upon receipt of the money, certified check, or money order, it will be credited to the inmates account.
Upon release, a check will be issued for any balance due the inmate. Checks are only issued during business hours of Monday thru Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm. If an inmate is released outside business hours, they can pick up their check during business hours, or we will mail it to the inmate.
You may write to an inmate by addressing your letter to the inmate, c/o Gallia County Jail, 18 Locust Street, Gallipolis, Oh, 45631. All mail is opened and inspected for contraband by Correctional Officer’s prior to delivering it to the inmate. Any money orders or certified checks are removed and credited to the inmates account. All correspondence must be sent via the US Postal Service.
Inmates are permitted to purchase paper, pencils and stamped envelopes through commissary to send mail. The Gallia County Jail does not accept envelopes or paper. If when inspecting mail we find paper and envelopes we will destroy them. Any inmate determined to be indigent we will supply them for 2 letters a week to be mail out. A charge is placed the inmates account ant the amount collected should the inmate receive any funds in the future.
The Gallia County Jail maintains one phone in each housing unit. The inmates have access to the phones to make collect calls to persons of their choice. No calling cards are permitted in the Gallia County Jail. A computerized record is maintained of every phone call made and all phone calls are recorded. Incoming calls are not accepted nor are messages given to inmates to make calls.
The Gallia County Jail operates an inmate commissary from which inmates may order items that include hygiene items, candy, chips, snacks, stamped envelopes, drinks, coffee, cards, board games and birthday cards. All commissary items must be ordered here. No outside items of any kind are permitted to be brought in.
We will take certain items as donation for use of all inmates. This includes paper back books, and board games not sold on commissary. These must be approved by the Sheriff, new and sealed in the box and are subject to inspection. All donations become the property of the Gallia County Jail.

The Gallia County Jail accepts 3 white shirts, socks and underwear. No colored clothes are accepted and we do not extra whites. Inmates are prohibited from wearing personal clothing items during their incarceration.
INMATES SENTENCED TO STATE PRISON
We do not accept items for inmates to take to prison, items of any kind. Tobacco products will be destroyed upon receiving them.
All personal items must be picked up by a family/ friend within seven days of the date the inmate was transported to prison. Any items not picked up will be destroyed.
